Ski Holidays USA!
There is a cozy atmosphere in many places, and people come to ski, not to become sunburnt and drink cappuccino. Most skiers are local and you meet rarely large guided groups or charter tourists on the small ski areas. That does not mean that skiing is boring, on the contrary give lifts to access an exciting terrain with less groomed pistes and plenty of challenging skiing in big bowls and steep forests.
Slopes are marked with colors as in Europe, but in addition you will also find marked off piste tours, which goes under the name "diamond" or "double diamond", where even the best skiers come to a hard test. All ski areas are demarcated and it is illegal to stand outside these markings. It's probably very few who will not find enough challenge in the official ski area.
Snow is usually plenty of - large frontal systems from the Pacific Ocean provides the western areas with dry and cold snow in abundance through the winter. The best snow falls in the Rocky Mountains and in the states of Utah and Wyoming will powder specialists find the world's driest, lightest powder snow. Rocky Mountains is the largest mountain range in North America. It starts in New Mexico and continues northward far into Canada, but many other places appear larger and smaller mountain ranges up of the continent. There is hardly the country which has a ski lift or the second suspect.
The serious ski areas will find primarily in the western U.S., Canada and simple places in New England on the east coast. Sierra Nevada Mountains in California offers challenging skiing in the area around Lake Tahoe, although perhaps not the State has been known for. Further north is sovereign skiing at Mount Hood in Oregon, and several ski areas in Washington State.
